Job Duties and Tasks for: "First-Line Supervisor-Manager of Correctional Officer"

1) Convey correctional officers' and inmates' complaints to superiors.

2) Examine incoming and outgoing mail to ensure conformance with regulations.

3) Rate behavior of inmates, promoting acceptable attitudes and behaviors to those with low ratings.

4) Resolve problems between inmates.

5) Supervise and provide security for offenders performing tasks such as construction, maintenance, laundry, food service, and other industrial or agricultural operations.

6) Transfer and transport offenders on foot, or by driving vehicles such as trailers, vans, and buses.



7) Complete administrative paperwork, and supervise the preparation and maintenance of records, forms, and reports.

8) Conduct roll calls of correctional officers.

9) Develop work and security procedures.

10) Instruct employees, and provide on-the-job training.

11) Maintain knowledge of, comply with, and enforce all institutional policies, rules, procedures, and regulations.

16) Restrain, secure, and control offenders, using chemical agents, firearms, and other weapons of force as necessary.

17) Set up employee work schedules.

18) Supervise and direct the work of correctional officers to ensure the safe custody, discipline, and welfare of inmates.

19) Supervise and perform searches of inmates and their quarters to locate contraband items.

20) Supervise activities such as searches, shakedowns, riot control, and institutional tours.

21) Take, receive, and check periodic inmate counts.

22) Carry injured offenders or employees to safety, and provide emergency first aid when necessary.
