1) Selects cutting position and sets controls of saws, milling machines, and routers following specifications.
2) Operates plate curving machine to cut plates to fit printing press.
3) Operates press to print proof of plate, observing printing quality.
4) Taps plate with hammer and block to flatten until even.
5) Examines plates with magnifier or microscope to detect flaws, using engraver's tools.
6) Rubs surface with finishing material to reveal unevenness.
