Job Duties and Tasks for: "Automotive Specialty Technician"

1) Align and repair wheels, axles, frames, torsion bars, and steering mechanisms of automobiles, using special alignment equipment and wheel-balancing machines.

2) Examine vehicles, compile estimates of repair costs, and secure customers' approval to perform repairs.

 

3) Install and repair air conditioners, and service components such as compressors, condensers, and controls.

4) Rebuild, repair, and test automotive fuel injection units.

5) Remove and replace defective mufflers and tailpipes.

6) Repair and rebuild clutch systems.

7) Repair and replace automobile leaf springs.

8) Repair and replace defective balljoint suspensions, brakeshoes, and wheelbearings.

9) Repair, overhaul, and adjust automobile brake systems.

10) Repair, replace, and adjust defective carburetor parts and gasoline filters.

11) Test electronic computer components in automobiles to ensure that they are working properly.

 

12) Tune automobile engines to ensure proper and efficient functioning.

13) Use electronic test equipment to locate and correct malfunctions in fuel, ignition, and emissions control systems.

14) Convert vehicle fuel systems from gasoline to butane gas operations, and repair and service operating butane fuel units.

 

15) Inspect and test new vehicles for damage, then record findings so that necessary repairs can be made.

16) Repair, install, and adjust hydraulic and electromagnetic automatic lift mechanisms used to raise and lower automobile windows, seats, and tops.
