Job Duties and Tasks for: "Supervisors and Manager - Logging Worker"

1) Assign to workers duties such as trees to be cut, cutting sequences and specifications, and loading of trucks, railcars, or rafts.

2) Change logging operations or methods to eliminate unsafe conditions.

 

3) Communicate with forestry personnel regarding forest harvesting and forest management plans, procedures, and schedules.

4) Determine logging operation methods, crew sizes, and equipment requirements, conferring with mill, company, and forestry officials as necessary.

5) Monitor logging operations to identify and solve problems, improve work methods, and ensure compliance with safety, company, and government regulations.

6) Monitor workers to ensure that safety regulations are followed, warning or disciplining those who violate safety regulations.

7) Plan and schedule logging operations such as felling and bucking trees; and grading, sorting, yarding or loading logs.

8) Schedule work crews, equipment, and transportation for several different work locations.

9) Supervise and coordinate the activities of workers engaged in logging operations and silvicultural operations.

10) Train workers in tree felling and bucking, operation of tractors and loading machines, yarding and loading techniques, and safety regulations.

11) Coordinate dismantling, moving, and setting up equipment at new work sites.
